Recession means Fashion Week suffers

Like anything that resides in the luxury goods realm, NY Fashion Week, the seminal fashion event of the year, is suffering thanks to the global down turn in the economy. I can't say I didn't see this coming because anyone with two ears and a brain between them could see this coming. But what is shocking to me is the lack of reaction from the Fashion Week crowd. They seem to be going on like business is usual while small time designers (the back bone of the industry and creativity) are falling all around them. I think if the organizers of the event wanted to do it right this year they should have made it easier on struggling designers that need the attention to get into the show and not pay all the fees. Not only would this help fashion overall it would promote the idea of goodwill in the industry and show that fashion has a heart and doesn't eat its young like it looks now. Come on fashion week, it's time to get serious about helping others.
