How to Walk in heels

So I was reading the style section of an online paper and it had a huge article about "how to walk in heels" which struck me as odd since I thought all women learned from their mothers how to walk in heels. But as I walked home (not in heels) I noticed other women that were in heels and how they walked and most were doing it wrong. The most common mistake that I saw was that women were sliding their feet instead of going heel-toe. This is really bad because it makes your posture look like crap and makes a terrible sliding noise instead of the alluring clicking of heels. So I thought I would post this little video as a reminders to all women. Just remember, stand up straight, heel-toe and sway (don't swing!) those hips.

Wang Pulls out of Fashion Week

So I was shocked yesterday when I read that Vera Wang was pulling out of New York fashion week, the largest fashion show in the world. She basically said it was too expensive and not worth it in these hard economic times and I think I have to agree with her to an extent. I think it isn't worth it for well known designers because they don't need the exposure. They can have little boutique shows and everyone will know about it and be banging down her office door to come because she is a name. But for people that are just starting out they need the exposure and the press of fashion week to make a splash and get buyers for their line. So I think fashion week still serves a vital purpose and I would hate to see it go away. I would just like to see it get cheaper so that there is a better chance of an unknown getting into the show and getting discovered.

In the Bra Business? Get the Bra Business Card!

I just love the idea of business cards that reflect your personality and profession. That is why I love fashion business cards because for the most part they are like me. Chic, spunky and of course always looking their best :) Check out another one of my favorite fashion business cards below. I think it is just a little bit risque for those that are in the bra business to help up-sell the good stuff.

Canadian Diamonds = Conflict Free

So I think when I get married I want my diamond from Canada. I think this is the only way to ensure that my diamond is more "aboot" than it is blood. By stopping women from getting diamonds from conflict zones we don't fund the terrorism and destruction of human life that occurs there. Our dollars vote for that murder when we by those diamonds and I think it is high time we stop. Let's support Canadian diamonds and make sure that our money is going to a friendly neighbor to the north and not a rebel army that is slaughtering children.

Kill your Heels - Dress Up Flats

I for one am all behind the recent trend of dress up flats. I really hate heels and frankly I hate the way my toes get squished for 8 hours a day when I wear them. So seeing flats making a comeback and even cutting into the heels marketshare is really exciting for me. I think flats say a lot of things about women's fashion that are really positive. For one it says that we don't need heels to look good (and make our butts look good) to get ahead in life, we can dress with what makes us comfortable and what works best for us and still be successful. It also says that we don't need to suffer to be stylish. Fashion is never about suffering, that was just the men in the world that created that, it is about art and art can be on a flat shoe just as easily as on a heel. So I say bravo to your flats revolutionaries out there and I say we keep fighting this until the heel becomes a thing of the past that we joke about like leggings at an 80s halloween party. "Death to heels!"

Shemagh Scarves

Shemagh Scarves are getting hot these days especially now that the weather is starting to cool off. I think these have roots in the middle east and are worn as a great way to accessorize any little ensemble. I haven't got one yet, mostly because I think they are over priced, but I think I might ask for one for christmas since that is just around the corner. Also I think these scarves are a perfect example of how the world is quickly becoming more inter-connected and globalized as fashion can spread from one area to the next in the blink of an eye.

Ombre Coat Shout Out

Just a quick shout-out to the Ombre Coat! It has everything I am loving about jackets this winter, simple design with a sharp/loose on the body cut and hidden pockets for lots of stuff like blackberrys and iphones. Also I love the throw back with the plaid and big buttons, it's very JackieO and very fitting for the recently passed presidential season. I think is a great coat that you could wear out to bars and drinks or just for getting lunch on a brisk afternoon. Well done!

Calendar Beauty for the Ages

In this world of extremely high fashion standards it is always interesting to look to the past to see what was considered sexy at the time and what was not. What is really amazing is that from time to time and culture to culture there is for sure not one single thing that is always a constant. Beauty is always in the eyes of the society and in a constant of flux and change. That is what is amazing because we have the power to make sure that women aren't starving themselves to be what we consider beautiful right now. I think we have a duty to ourselves to change what is beautiful now to save the lives of those that are suffering. Just take a look at this calendar and see how beauty through time has been different and will continue to change long after we are dead. It should humble you into seeing your vanity and wanting to change the insane standards we have created these days.
